The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators is unique in being the only organization established and authorized expressly to set and maintain professional and ethical standards for the practice of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and to certify teachers and to accredit instructional programs that meet these standards. The Academy is incorporated and operates under the New York State Education Law, its corporate status being authorized in 1995 by action of the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York on behalf of the Education Department of the State of New York. It is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.

Bright Solutions for Dyslexia, Inc. was founded by Susan Barton, an internationally recognized expert in dyslexia. She is the developer of the Barton Reading and Spelling System – an Orton-Gillingham influenced system designed specifically for parents, homeschool parents, and volunteer tutors in literacy programs. The Barton System is easy to learn and contains enough support for parents and volunteer tutors, yet is complete enough for professional tutors as well as reading and resource specialists.

Decoding Dyslexia: Network of grassroots parent groups working to raise dyslexia awareness, get families the support they need, and inform policy makers on best practices to support students with dyslexia in public schools. The first group started in New Jersey, but you can do a Facebook or visit the main Decoding Dyslexia site to find groups in other states.

The International Dyslexia Association

The International Dyslexia Association (IDA): The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is an international organization dedicated to pursuing and providing the most comprehensive range of information and services that address the full scope of dyslexia and related difficulties in learning to read and write. The IDA actively promotes the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading to ensure that all teachers are provided with the tools and training to teach all children to read. IDA believes that all individuals have the right to achieve their potential, that individual learning abilities can be strengthened and that social, educational and cultural barriers to language acquisition and use … must be removed.
