Overview
Learning Ally's WMA Downloadable books can be played on your computer using Windows Media® Player, or they can be played on compatible portable media players. Learning Ally Individual members can transfer or “sync” (short for synchronize) each book to two different portable players; institutional members can sync each book to five different players. This document describes how to use Windows Media Player to transfer books to your portable player.
Windows Media Player 11
- Connect your portable player to your PC per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Start Windows Media Player and select the "Sync" tab. You should see your player listed on the right side of the screen:
- Use the “Library” view on the left side of the screen to select the books or parts of books that you want to transfer to the player. Drag these to the "Sync List" on the right side of the screen:
- Click the "Start Sync" button at the lower left to transfer the files to the player. Windows Media Player will show the progress of each file as it is transferred.
- When synchronization is complete, you may disconnect your player.
Windows Media Player 10
- Connect your portable player to your PC per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Start Windows Media Player and select the "Library" tab.
- In the “List” drop down on the right side, select "Sync List":
- Use the “Library” view on the left side of the screen to select the books or parts of books that you want to transfer to the player. Drag these to the "Sync List" on the right side of the screen:
- Click the "Start Sync" button at the lower left to transfer the files to the player.
- When the synchronization is complete, you may disconnect your player.
Portable Media Player Tips
- You can sync parts of books to the player to save space
- Because of the size of Learning Ally WMA Downloadable books, it is recommended that you use manual sync for devices. To set a device to manual sync, connect it to your PC, start Windows Media Player, then select the “Set Up Sync” option under the player section of the “Sync” drop-down menu in Windows Media Player 11 (In Windows Media Player 10, click the “Set Up Sync” button on the “Sync” tab). Uncheck the “Sync this device automatically” to force manual sync
- You must have a license for the book before you can sync it to a player
