At our studio in Friendship Heights, we are seeking detail-oriented volunteers as new readers and recording session directors to record our textbooks. Our most immediate needs are for specialists in the fields of biology, medicine and physiology at the college level, computer use and programming. We also need general subject area readers and checkers (volunteers who provide quality control for our recordings). These volunteers will be trained in digital audio editing. Administrative volunteers to assist staff in preparing mailings for fundraising and volunteer programs, data entry, answering phones and general office work are also welcome. A commitment of two hours a week for at least one year is required.
NIH, Bethesda, MD, Volunteer Program: A Special Invitation to NIH Employees
At our satellite studio at NIH, volunteers record science and medical texts that are in demand by high school, college and post-graduate students.
If you are an NIH employee and have a background in medicine, chemistry or biology, please consider volunteering with us at our satellite studio. Training on our digital recording equipment is provided. In addition to learning the recording equipment, we will also teach you how to read tables, figures, diagrams and charts included with the text. This training process takes some time, so we ask for a minimum commitment of one hour per week for six months to ensure that both you and our students get the most out of your volunteer work.
Our most critical need is volunteers with expertise in college and post-graduate-level sciences. Student demand for texts at this level is surpassing our ability to record them.
