Purpose of the Position: We are seeking an experienced, dynamic Senior Product Manager. The Senior Product Manager works closely with district and school customers and internal stakeholders to iteratively develop a market-driven, reading/grade-level segmented product roadmap and delivery schedule, drive design and UX, feature sets and functional requirements for the development teams, and represent the product to internal and external stakeholders.

Position Summary: The Senior PM is required to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about leading the development and execution for effective, scalable, end-to- end solutions, providing students with print-related disabilities the ability such as blindness or dyslexia to discover their learning styles and preference and lead them to success in every aspect of their education. Responsible for understanding and anticipating the need of educators in elementary, middle and high school the Senior PM will gather requirements, and is responsible for internal engagement, customer outreach, and ensuring our products are accessible. The Senior PM will report to the Director of Solutions Development and is expected to be a key member of a small and growing innovative technology team.

This role includes

  • Work cross-functionally with every team; from understanding market needs to developing extensive education market subject matter expertise, to sitting in on customer calls with the sales and support teams, and working on user stories with user experience and product development teams.
  • Deepen our understanding of how students and educators use Learning Ally in support of personalizing education for students with a print disability. Using a combination of school relationship experience, qualitative and quantitative research, customer feedback and data-mining, arrive at a portrait of how Learning Ally is used among our school adopters.
  • Address challenges endemic to k-12 school environments in order to solve installation, implementation, utilization, and scale issues.
  • Identify new features for improving Learning Ally’s digital products aimed at getting students to read with an emphasis on driving usage and acquiring new institutional memberships. Analyze, design, and conceptualize features for review and feedback among internal stakeholders. Evaluate, prioritize and recommend new feature development based on strategic goals and budget.
  • Drive Design and UX teams to create compelling and efficient experiences for our members.
  • Guide software development teams through implementation and product launch via precise articulation of product requirements and feature specifications. Provide critical feedback on pre-release builds in order to identify bugs for regression and further progress towards launch. Participate in the scrum process as product owner.
  • Deliver insights and understanding about Learning Ally members, particularly around utilization, by working closely with data warehouse personnel and tools to create reports and analysis as needed.

Primary Position Objectives

  • Ensure that all Learning Ally digital products (Teacher Platforms, Student Platforms and Audiobooks) deliver an experience informed by grade and reading level that empowers students and supports educators that serve students with print learning disabilities.
  • Work to advance our understanding of students and educators and what they need; effectively identify, prioritize, describe, and organize product feature sets into roadmaps charting 3, 6, 12, and 24-month release intervals.
  • Ensure Learning Ally content meets the needs of our students and schools, attracts new members and engages our current membership base.
  • Guide UX and design teams towards compelling front-end design utilizing focus groups, user feedback, design best practices and student need.
  • Partner with software development and product teams to ensure new product specifications are maintained and well-articulated. Prepare Use Cases, draft business requirements; participate in unit and acceptance testing of pre-production software as needed and collect end-user feedback.
  • Work with data teams and research to identify reporting metrics that drive reading utilization. Work closely with technology partners in order to articulate requirements for new data reports and views, and assist in their delivery as needed.
  • Deepen our understanding of how students with a print disability use our platforms and books, and how this behavior can change based on the material or subject being studied. Understand the influence and roles of other stakeholders, particularly around educators, in selecting content for our student end users.
  • Foster a working environment that supports Learning Ally’s cultural values. Act as a role model and engage in discussions and feedback to ensure the intent of our mission is integrated into day-to- day activities, planning and communications.
  • Ensure all our products are section 508 Compliant and meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Participate in other Learning Ally activities as required to achieve organizational goals.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources or a related field with at least 2 to 4 years of human resources experience, with concentration in employee benefits

Work experience

  • 2-5 years in the education sector (ideally working for a school, district or CMO in a technology function)
  • 3+ years of experience in a Product Management role where you have shipped multiple products that have scaled
  • Project Management or Program Management experience

Specific Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current K-12 education products (especially SIS & LMS) and market needs
  • Demonstrated experience leading UX and Design teams around customer experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the agile software development process
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering and transforming customer needs into an actionable product vision and requirements definition
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience with screen readers such as Jaws, VoiceOver, and Window-Eyes a plus
  • Experience training staff and customers on software highly valued
  • Capacity to take ownership and drive toward achieving personal goals
